چکیده

We propose a simple formula for fitting the electron ionization mean free paths in solids both at high and at low electron energies. The free-electron-gas approximation used for predicting electron mean free paths is no longer valid at low impact energies E−EF 50 eV , as the band structure effects become significant at those energies. Therefore, we include the results of band structure calculations in our fit. Finally, we apply the fit to nine elements and two compounds. © 2006 American Institute of Physics. Numerical Investigation of the Non-Uniformity of the Electric Field Distribution by Injection of Net Electron Charge in TE CO2 Laser

In this report, the distribution and deviation of electric field in the active medium of the TE CO2 laser has been investigated due to the injection of net electron charge beam as a plasma generator. Some parameters of system have been considered, such as density and mean-free-path of injected charge beam. The electric potential and electric field distribution have been simulated by solving the...

Continuous Slowing Down Approximation ( CSDA ) ranges of electrons for biomedical materials

Introduction Stopping media are characterized by their stopping power (SP), the inelastic mean free path (IMFP), the continuous slowing down approximation-range (CSDA-range) (R) and the energy straggling parameter. These physical quantities are important for application such as radiation biology, electron beam lithography, and chemical analyses of surface regions of a solid and in calculation o...

Some Fundamental Concepts of Femtosecond Laser Filamentation

This paper attempts to clarify some fundamental concepts of femtosecond (fs) laser filamentation in an optical (transparent) medium since there are currently many new applications which are being explored. These range from remote sensing in the atmosphere to few cycle pulse generation, micro-material processing, writing wave guides, fiber Bragg gratings, etc. in the laboratory. For a most recen...

Mean free path of solar electrons and nucleons

The quasilinear scattering mean free path of solar flare electrons and nucleons is calculated for interplanetary plasma wave turbulence consisting of a mixture of slab shear Alfvén waves and isotropic fast magnetosonic waves. It is shown that for well-sampled electron and nucleon mean free paths over a wide and overlapping energy range the underlying frequency power spectra of left-handed and r...

Influence of Recombination on the Free-Electron Avalanche in Laser-Irradiated Dielectrics

When transparent solids are irradiated with laser intensities above a certain threshold, strong absorption of laser energy occurs. The increasing absorptivity is caused by the formation of a free electron gas in the conduction band of the dielectric. The temporal evolution of the free-electron density in a dielectric during ultrashort pulse laser irradiation plays a fundamental role for numerou...
